A spicy cake, which Mama usually served with a Lemon Sauce.

Mix together the molasses, sugar, butter and eggs.
Sift in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Mix together the ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and boiling water. Add this to the sugar and flour mixture. Pour into a greased cake pan.
Bake in 350 deg F oven until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
